Norway Kjeragbolten rock (the stone bridge)

Norway Kjeragbolten rock (the stone bridge)

About 10,000 years ago, large glaciers scraped their way from the mountains to the sea. In the process, Norway’s rugged landscapes, most rather its fjords, have been formed. At some point, the well-known Kjeragbolten (Kjerag boulder) was once wedged into a crevasse at a heart-stopping 3,228 toes (984 meters) over the fjord.

Start your early morning ride at Høgsfjord - this is the place you will board your ferry via the Lysefjord, passing waterfalls, deserted farms, and the well-known Preikestolen Cliff. Once ashore, you’ll be pushed up a (very) windy street thru the Sirdal Mountains to the Eagle’s Nest trailhead.

The hike is demanding, with an ascent of extra than 2,500 feet. During the about 2.5-hour climb to the boulder, you’ll come across three durations of steep mountaineering interspersed with two shallow valleys. Along the way, you’ll revel in views of Lysebotn at the head of the Lysefjord. The remaining mile main up to Kjeragbolten is incredibly flat, and as soon as you attain the part of the mountain’s plateau you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the 26-mile lengthy Lysefjord. If you’re amongst the brave, you can even stand atop the boulder earlier than making your descent.
